The split system consists of an outdoor unit (compressor), feeding an indoor unit (head). As a result, they are less noisy, and are of a more pleasing appearance. Most split systems are reverse-cycle, which means they will not only cool in summer, but are an extremely efficient form of heater. These units are the most common type of machine in use today. A split system will condition a room or a single area of your home. Ducted systems can do the entire house, but there is sometimes not enough room to install a ducted system, so two (or more) split systems can be used. This also provides some redundancy, as each split system has its own motor. Multi-head split systems can also be used to condition multiple rooms. |
